I recently purchased a stock 2005 400EX, and I'm wondering what kind of mileage I can expect when trail riding, mainly in the local mountains. I did about a 40 mile trail ride and used a little over a gallon, so I'm guessing my mileage was about 35mpg. Does that sound about right?

When trail riding, what would you recommend to use for extra gas? I could bungy a 1 gallon tank to the quad, but I see there are other options sold that may work better. Any opinions?

Those 400Ex's get pretty dang good mileage. We used to ride all day long on a tank. You're going through pretty long trail to need extra gas. I'd say 40 miles using about a gallon sounds about right.
