Default Oil Change

I picked up a 2001 400ex over a week ago. I am going to change the oil in it. I found a how-to on another forum http://www.atvriders.com/articles/oilchange400ex.html I was looking for a recommendation on oil. I live in Florida and it is above 70degrees 95% of the year here. I am not sure what kind of oil was in it before. Can anyone give me a recommendation and also any tips for changing the oil. It seems pretty straight forward, but if there is something I should look out for, I would appreciate any insight.

Thanks,

LeTHaL

Default Oil Change

I couldn't get your link to work, so: http://www.atvriders.com/articles/oilchange400ex.html

Absolutely be sure you do not put the oil filter in backward!

If you pick a motorcycle specific oil that is API SG/JASO MA, you can't go far wrong. I like the ester synthetic oils, like RedLine, Maixma, Motul, and Klotz, but they are all pricey. If you can't find anything else, run Honda HP4 (but not HP4M).
