i 660 raptor is a alright bike. it is top heavy though. the 400ex is a good all around bike. great on trails, will make it up anything in the dunes. (maybe not as fast as most other). and it is a very reliable bike. the raptor 700 is much better than the 660. it sits lower. has good stock suspestion, efi is always nicee to. and pretty dang fast 2!

I have never liked the 660. It is top heavy and tippy. I would have to widen it, and that just wouldn't be worth the trouble.

actually they make an affordable way to widen your front 4.5 iches or 6.5 inches for about 18 bucks. then all you need it wheel spacer in the back.

They are both good machines. The 660r has "longer legs", meaning it will effortlessly go faster and has power in reserve. The 400ex is a little lighter, but has much less power, (depending on bolt-ons). I have several people in our groups with 400s and 660s. Most people's (in our group) think the 400 is a nice old bike and the 660 preferable due to more power..., but both keep up with th epack on trails... They both get decent gas mileage.

For a trail machine, either one will be good,....

Does the 400 have electric start??

Personally I would not buy either, new! Even owning the Raptor which has been a great bike, I bought it for my son, I would have prefferrred the KFX700. I have ridden the 700 Raptor, and yeah it was smooth fast and handled great, but did not peak my interest...like the V-twin CVT drive machine. I love that point the bars and hammer the throttle on the CVT...without shifting...

If I could get a deal on one of them then, I wold buy either one, for a good price...

Well I have both bikes and I enjoy riding the 400 more. It's light and easy to whip around. I also haven't had any problems with the 400 either. The Raptor is fast and a little nose heavy. I have also had a lot of starter problems on the Raptor. The 400 is definitly more fun in the dunes. It won't get you up the hill the fastest, but you can do just about anything on it. So my vote is the 400.
