Quirky Spark Problem Honda 1993 TRX300FW
I am having an intermittent spark problem:
Sometimes, when I go to start the ATV, it will only fire a little, then stall, refusing to restart. If I continue to crank the starter, nothing fires. If I operate either the kill switch or the keyed ignition switch to off, then on, it will repeat the process. If I don't operate either switch, it just cranks without firing.
I have checked for spark both with the spark plug and without the spark plug. I can see that I normally only get one spark although occasionally I will get up to about 8 sparks before it stops firing. If I operate either switch, I can get it to fire once again as many times as I choose to operate the switch.
This has only happened when I go to start it, again occasionally. When it does "decide" to start it has run and restarted flawlessly for the rest of the use. Then it might be fine for several days before it decides to act up again.
Right now I am in "won't start" mode for the third time so I have narrowed it down because I can identify the symptoms.
I am thinking this could be: wiring; coil; ignition controller. It seems like a very specific set of symptoms, I would think that this would point to something that I am just not smart enough to realize.
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance for your help, I have noticed some awesome advice on these forums.
Dave.
