Default 02 Rancher Problems

Hey guys, I just bought an 02 rancher ES 2x4. Guy thought he broke the crank or the cam/cam chain. I got it home, charged battery. After a few minutes of turnin it over it fires off. Runs for about a minute then dies. Now it wont start again. So this tells me its not the crank or the cam. Changed plug and checked timing. Clean the carb although it wasnt dirty. Still nothing, as good fire and its getting fuel. But seems to me that the compression is not what it should be. I can put my finger over the plug hole and stop the force of the air from coming out. Shouldnt blaw my finger off?

Next question is, would this be the rings? Or maybe a bent valve? Keep in mind it ran a minute when I got it home.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated, I'm kinda at a stand still. Want to see some other opions before I pull the head.

Thanks,

Had a valve adjustment recently????

Most folks never do one....until it won't run anymore.

Nope, but I pulled the head, everything ok. Pulled the jug, and WOW... Piston all eat up on one side near the top. Think thats where i was losing my compression. Gonna get it bored and the headredone with a valve job. Replace the piston and rings then it should be good to go.

Thanks,
