I am constantly checking the net to see whats available... There are a ton of 400ex's to choose from so that prolly why they are reasonably priced around here.... The predetors seem to be in the same price range...

One thing to consider, if you're going to go the a 400ex, is that starting in 2005 they put reverse on them. So if you're already considering a 03 or 04, the 2005 might not be too much more in price. I wasn't sure if I would use reverse, but I seem to use it quite a bit while riding, and even just moving it in and out of the truck or garage. I got a great deal off Ebay on an 05 with VERY low miles, and an extra set of slightly used paddle tires & rims--$3800.00. The bike was ridden by a girl who's boyfriend rode. She rode it for less than a year, then they broke up, so she sold the quad. So the point is, look around until you find the right deal. I love the 400ex. Even stock it seems to have a good deal of power and speed.

... But if you do find a 400 for under 3000 it may seem nice at first but most likely it's gonna need work after not too long of riding if its that cheap, i got mine 2002 400 ex for 2700 and it still need about another 600 in it and i got a really good deal, sometimes the cheapest costs a lot more in the end</end quote></div>

Doh, Sorry guys.
Anyway gonna have to disagree with ya bandit. Have quite a few guys with the 400ex. Only thing we have ever done was clean the carb on an '01 that sit in a field and put a cam chain tensioner on an '02. Nobody paid more than 2500 for them but then again were talking about '01's and '02's.

The things are pretty solid. They have to be abused pretty bad to need any work. My bro and the guy he bought it from put it through hell and ya it burned a little oil but ran great.

if you are running trails i would go with a trail boss, but for overall enjoyment a 400 will get the job done.

If you look around you can get a good deal, I found an all stock 05' 400ex for 3,400.00 and love it. Also there is a recall on the 05' for a reverse spring so ask if it's been fixed or not. The dealership told me that it can just go into rev. while you're riding, probably would have hurt!

i have a honda 200s atc, (3 wheeler) thats an 86 and that piece gives me the most trouble out of anything ive ever owned, i also have a '95 polaris sportsman 335 limited edition (anniversary model) and ive never had a problem. i've had its tires completely submerged in clay and it just wont get stuck. it'll crawl out of everything. the polaris also has close to double the miles of the honda. my thoughts, ignor the honda guys and go polaris.

ps. yes i know my name says honda 200s but its just cause thats all i had when i got on this forum
