Hey guys whats goin on.. I'm new to this forum but I'm on a lot of truck forums. I plan on buying a quad soon and was looking for some input... A few of my buddies have honda 400ex's do you guys have any input on what a good price is and what to look for on a 03 or 04? If you have another suggestion for a different quad I'm up for it but I am on a budget....
Thanks!

The 400 class quads are the best trail/all-around machines. The Hondas are solid reliable machines that will run forever. Mine is nearly 10 years old and has thousands of miles on it, with no major problems.
Take a look at the Suzuki Z400 as well (03's had front shock mount problems).

well i see your kinda wanting to go with honda which is a good choice, very strong and releable engine, look for where they rode it and how many miles it has jus simply check out the condition , and its up to you on where u wanna ride if u want a 4x4 for the trails and mudding or if ya jus dont like getting stuck or if u want a sport bike like the 400ex and wanna go fast and race around, if your on a budget for a 4x4 go with rancher 350 or rancher 400AT, but the rancher 350 is all time 4x4 so watch out, jus depends on the deal u get and what u like

06 Honda Rancher 400AT, 2" lift, 26/12/12 mud lites rear, 26/10/12 mud lites front, ITP chrome rims, HMF slip on pipe, exhaust wrap, K&N filter, outwears prefilter wrap, Dyno jet kit, customized snorkle with differential and carb vent lines ran up with snorkle, 2000lbs superwinch, warn front bumber with warn trail lights

It depends if you are a new rider or have a little experience on quads. If you are jsut starting out the 400ex is a great quad. They have one of the most reliable engines on the market and they have a lot of room for upgrades. The stock ones start out pretty set up but like I said they are very easily upgraded as far as aftermarket parts go. For and 03 or 04 stock, it depends a lot on the condition and riding time but around 3300 up to about 400o is a decent price. When you check them out make sure you ask about engine to make sure the previous owner took good care of it, because it is practically the most expensive part of the quad to fix and/or replace.

400EX is as everyone says a rock solid machine and best for the trails. For '03 '04 should be able to find one for under $3000. I wouldn't pay anymore than $3200 if piped with some good tires.
450 class is the "race" quad. I loved my EX but got into more open riding and got out of the slower trails. I switched to a modded '04 yfz for $3200. Depending on your nature, some are always wanting to go bigger/faster. If you think you may fall into this category just jump straight to the 450R or YFZ450. Provided that you don't do many slow trails (450's get hot!). You can find one for not much more than an EX.

Predator 500's are pretty nice, i have a couple friends that have them and they are very dependable, as far as yamaha goes i would go with the raptor 700r or 660r as opposed to the yfz...jsut personal preference. But if you do find a 400 for under 3000 it may seem nice at first but most likely it's gonna need work after not too long of riding if its that cheap, i got mine 2002 400 ex for 2700 and it still need about another 600 in it and i got a really good deal, sometimes the cheapest costs a lot more in the end
