Default blowing main fuse

I had a very similar problem with my 2000 model and it turns out a bad contactor was causing it to blow fuses. I kept going through main fuses until I traced it to the contactor. I hope this helps.

Right side on the frame. It's the flat thing with vent fins and has an electrical connector going to it.

I think I replied to a duplicate.

Anyway, Hondas are usually wired so the only things that are hot when the key is off are the starter relay and the regulator.

If you want to know if it is the regulator, try unplugging it. Then try putting in a new main fuse (with key off, not running). If the fuse doesn't blow when you install it with the regulator unplugged, but it did when you put the fuse in with the regulator plugged in, then it would be safe to assume the regulator is shorted out.

If it still blows the fuse with the regulator unplugged, I'd be looking at a short in the wiring harness or in the key switch.

would a regulator from a 450 foreman be the same as one on a 350 fourtrax????hey just want to know because a new one will cost me 140 + dollars canadian . not real sure if the reg is my problem. i think it may be a bit more complicated than the regulator...

What I would do personally is pull the fuse and replace it with a test light that way you don't keep blowing fuses and I would wiggle around the harness and different connectors it sounds to me like something is shorted out and causing it to blow...you could also use a dvom to check to see if there is a short and isolate the problem...look for any chaffed wires or any wires that could be near any metal or insulation from the wires burnt on the engine...If it only happens when you are turning it on with the quad using the starter I would isolate it to the starting system(ignition, starter, killswitch) hope this helps...Brett Also I forgot to mention take the test light and keep it there abd disconnect the connectors in that circuit to isolate the problem. If there isn't a short up to that pt the light will go out and plug the connector back in...if you unplug the connector and the light stays lit then the short is somewhere in between the last connector and the one you unplugged
