I have played with 2" wheel spacers a few times over the years. While they give you greater stability, weird things can happen in the front end. Things like bump steer, changed leverage on shocks, front end pushes in turns, and increased wear on hubs.
This is one of those things where you just have to try them and see what happens. What I did, was go with ITP Baja rums that are wider than stock and a greater offset, so I end up around +3" wider...with no weird handling problems.

For trial riding, Id skip the spacers. The understeer which happens whle using them is counterproductive to going faster. On the other hand, if youre riding on the sand, then 1.5 inch wide works good.
Personally I like the solid ring spacers, but those stud spacers do work, just make sure they dont come loose, or itll wreck stuff, like wheels and hubs.
