250x starting problem
#1
I have an '87 250x and having some problems getting it started. I have replaced the coil and have spark and getting plenty of fuel from the carb. I'm stuck on which direction to go next. Not sure if it's a timing issue or maybe a wiring issue. Can anyone throw a suggestion out there for me? Can't remember how to time the engine, but if there are any suggestions for that, I would greatly appreciate it.

Check the compression first. Could be just a tight intake valve, which is making the compression too low to fire.
Have you tried to bump start it? Just hook up a tow strap, and have someone pull it around,in gear, key on, clutch out. See if itll start then.

pull the small cap (flathead screwdriver) on LH side of bike... put the timing notch at 1|T ....remove Fuel tank, pull valve cover off, timing marks on Cam gear should be even with head
very little slak in timing chain... Hows yer stator? Been in deep water?

Ok, I'm going to answer both here. I have tried to pull start it and got nothing. I don't think compression is an issue cause it's a brand new top end with a 12:1 piston. Have not been in deep water, but have been wondering if the stator has gone out. I was running fine back in April or May of last year, but now I have nothing. I will check the timing on it and see if that works, any other suggestions are welcome.
