300 head on 250 motor???
#1
Whats up.. I have a 92 TRX250X that I have rebuilt with High Compression Wiesco
piston but....it failed me a couple months ago. Broke the sleeve in the jug bent piston rings and damaged head.... I now have a 300ex head that I'm going to put on...
Can I do this without major mods?
I got the head and the jug together from the 300..
Does the 300 have a shorter stroke?
any major problems with this?

The jug and head are the same, the only difference is the 300 had a slightly longer stroke, the stock bore is the same. The only thing I can't remember is if the 250x has a decompression lever, being it is a kick start, versus the electric start on the 300ex. You should be fine using the 300 parts.

will the longer stroke play as a burden since I still am using the 250x piston arm?
when I stuck it on there is about a 1/4 in gap from being plush with the top of the jug...Is that right

I haven't looked closely at a 250x in a while, so I'm not sure how the cable and decompression lever mount on the head, but it should be pissible to swap all the parts, the jug is exactly the same, the same numbers are stamped on it. The parts for the decompressor may mount on the valve cover, as I said,I haven't seen a 250X close up in years. Even without, kicking over a 250 wouldn't be too tuff, even with a higher compression piston.

this jug I got is stamped 281 ...is bigger to (harder to get in frame) so i can run without decompressor cable...wont rattle?
what about the longer stroke (300)...can i run on 250 piston arm?

i know its a pain to start without the decompression depending on what comp your running with the piston.. i've got 11.5 or so :1 and i have to jump up and down on the lever to get it to crank over. so if you're like me and weigh 150 - 160 lbs i wouldn't recommend it.
