Hello everyone ...
I have a Rancher AT
I was doing an Oil change to the Rancher and noticed i put the oil in the wrong side where the tranny is... ( yes i was eating **** !!lol )
I was like why isnt this cranking up ... i tried turning the bike on a couple time till a big pow cam out of the exhaust.... i was like what the hell ...
thats when i noticed i put the oil on the wrong side... drained the bike again ... and waiting for tomorrow to buy some more oil....
Question on the tranny side do i have to put tranny oil ?? and how much do i put ??
also did i do any harm to the rancher ?? I have not tried turning the quad on ... till i get the rest of the oil i need !!
thanks for ur help !!

I'm not intimately familiar with this machine, but I think the engine and trans share the same oil, they just have two seperate fill holes (and maybe seperate drains???).
So, I think you are saying you overfilled the trans, while the engine was empty (???). Did you start the engine like that???

that is correct I overfilled the trany while the oil side was empty and started the bike twice but it shut down on me and that's when I noticed that I put the oil on the wrong side..
they do share the same drainage so I drained it and waiting to get some more oil tomorrow..
do you think I messed anything up? the bike also backfired while I was trying to start it..
do I need to put any transmission oil or does it share the same oil?
thanks for your help..

It just takes a motorcycle engine oil in both the trans and engine, like Honda HP4.
Depending on how long it ran without oil, you probably do have some major engine damage! The rings and the crank bearing will probably be the first things to go. Good news is, your expensive and complex transmission will be just fine.
You are going to have to tear into it to see what the damage actually is......

The big kapow was a fouled spark plug
It will not matter if you fill in the dip stick hole or the filler hole, it drains into the same place
3 quarts is the normal for oil on them
I f you had it over full on oil, most likely the extra oil was pushed into the air filter fouling out the spark plug
