Im not sure about the 300, but on some of the hondas theres a square hole for inserting the breaker bar, or ratchet to hold it still while the center nut is broken free. Its located off center. I know other mechanics have used an air impact wrench, and it unspins it so quickly, it doesnt need to be held.
Do you have access to a service manual for the quad. The clymers goes into pretty good detail on disassembly and specs, and reassembly. If you have acess to a library, check out the 629 section in the non fiction area, and if they dont have one, ask the librarian to see if they can get one from another branch.

I have the tool in my tool chest at work, it was a couple clicks over $80.
The tool has internal threads machined into one end and external threads machined on the other so the one tool works on many applications
Sorry, I don't know the thread size or pitch off the top of my head

I have seen it available other than from a Honda dealer some place and can't quite remember, I don't believe it was American Kowa Tool, rather some place like motorcycle tools dot com or something. I never book marked the site. Google a search for motorcycle tools. It may take some digging but there is a site out there that has them listed. If I run across it I will sure post the site. Hope I can help
Edit: It looks like the KTM/LEM puller on this page . I will search more and also measure my puller at work to make sure of the size
Also a warning, do not use an impact on this tool, it spreads the end of the crankshaft so the bearing pressed into the cover, will no longer slip over the crankshaft end when the cover is reinstalled

I would like to lend you mine, But I use it way too much to have it away for a week. That is about how long it would take to ship it to and back from North Dakota To Florida. We are a fast pased dealership and I need it too much not to have it
I found the threads to be 35mm by 1.0 pitch
