Default 02 rancher 350fm broken shifter shaft and water in engine

Please scroll down to see the update.

I just bought a 2002 rancher trx350fm that will not start and the tires will not move. It appears to be stuck in gear, the gear shifter will not move enough to shift the engine. I am wondering if anyone has any ideas of what potential problems could be. I was told it just stopped running and the engine would not turn over after that. It would also not roll either.

My second question is will a foreman 400 engine fit easily into the rancher?

Thanks

I put a heater on the engine for a couple hours and the shifter would move again. I noticed it was loose and i pulled on it and the shaft pulled out. Once that happened about a quart of water came out with it along with some oil. I pulled the drain plug out and let the rest drain out and then i filled the case up with tranny fluid and in a couple days when i get a chance i will drain that out and pull the engine. I pulled the spark plug and it end looks very corroded. I have no idea how long the water has been in there. Do you think there is a chance i can rebuild the engine or do i need to start looking for another one?

Thanks

personally if there is corrosion in the motor, the whole damn thing is shot in my opinion, but if your going to replace the motor anyway, i would get some cheap oil fill the crankcase, pull the plug fill the spark plug hole, take the recoil starter off, and get a large socket and wrench and break the motor free, once thats done, see if you can get it to fire, if you can let it run a bit on high idle, then change the oil, and keep changing it and the filter till it runs cleans, at least it maybe ridable for a short time till you can find a motor. i personally do not expect the motor to last

that is what i was thinking. I plan on pulling the motor to see what it is like inside. Since there was oil still in the engine i am unsure of what the lower end will look like. The top end would be cheap and easy to replace so if the lower end looks ok i will keep the motor. Any ideas where i can find a motor for it?

I got the engine pulled today and started taking it apart. It looks a lot better than i thought it would. I did figure out why it didn't turn over.

I think i should be able to salvage the engine no problem. What parts should be a mandatory replace since it had water in it that froze? Do you think the rod is shot from the piston failure?

I might have a crank assembly for you. Possably a cylinder also. I also have a near complete set of transmission bearings minus one crank main bearing and the balance shaft bearings
Check if the gear position switch was froze and ruined inside
How were the differentials, water in them also ?

i might need the crank, let me know what you want for the items you listed, i will find out Thursday if my cylinder can be saved. e-mail me at snorulz at charter dot net please also include how old the items are.
The front differential had no water in it and it appears the rear did not either. The rear brake is a little sticky but that could just be the cables.
