Default 2007 Rincon VS 2008 Sportsman 500EFI

Hello All.

This is my problem. I have owned both a 2003 Rincon and a 2004 Sportsman 500HO. Now I am in the market for a brand new atv and am undecided between the two. I have found a new 07 Rincon Camo still in the crate for 6400 and a new 2008 Sportsman Stealth 500 efi for about the same price.

I loved my Rincon of the past but had to put larger tires on it for clearance and did have alot of issues with overheating as well as shifting. I finally sold it with all fo 500 miles on it. I never had a issue with my 04 Sportsman 500HO which I sold with all of 1500 miles on it. The only thing I did not like on the Sp vs the Rincon was the larger size.

Does anyone know how the quality is of the new 07 Honda's? As well as the 07/08 Sportsmans. The reason why I am comparing the two is because of the HP difference of only about 2 horses. Yes Polaris makes a 800 but the hp on that atv is close to 50 Hp which is not needed and I do not wish to spend $7800 for a quad!.

The new Polaris does comes with factoy cast aluminum rims and larger tires, as well as a winch. The Rincon will need a winch and upgraded tire/wheel size for ground clearance issues.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The 03 650 Rincon and the 07 are the same except the 680 got a 2mm bore increase. The 04 SP500 and 2008 SP500 are close also, beside your typical plastics changes Polaris added larger 26" tires, longer 8.2 inch front struts and EFI.

Pretty well either way you decide you will just get your old ATVs back.

Honda and Polaris have not made any "Utility ATV" technological break throught in the last 10-15 years as far as I can see.

But how is the quality of the Rincon now vs 2003? Also I want to add tracks to the atv that I purchase. With the 4 wheel drive system that the Rincon has be able to handle it?

I'm surprised you had problems with the 03... Other than the oil O ring thing, they are generally known to be more reliable.

In addition to the increase in bore, the shift points are different, and as I understand it they have enlarged some of the oil passages so the transmission isn't quite as finiky about needing to be warmed up. Basically the 680 has better throttle response, downshifts firmer and sooner, and is less cold blooded, in addition to a slight power increase.

I have no idea how the Rincon would respond to tracks, as I've never talked to anyone who has them.

In this class of machine, I'd have to say I'd also have a hard look at the Griz. EFI, locker, low range, power steering, decent handling, good reputation for reliability...

After lots of research and test drives I purchase the last leftover 2007 Rincon Camo still in the crate with 0 miles on it from Don & Roys in Brookfield Wi. GREAT DEALERSHIP! They sold it to me for $6550 out the door. After driving the Polaris I felt that such a expensive atv should not rattle. Best of all I received a 1 year warranty vs 6 months on the Polaris. Now its time for tires and wheels!

Cool. Enjoy the new machine, and post back once you've had some seat time to tell us what you think.

You guys have different pricing than us up here. In Canada a 500 Foreman cost as much or more than a Sportsman 500 and a 680 Rincon cost as much or more than a 800 Sportsman.

that was a great choice especailly for wanting to run tracks. my opinion is that belt driven machines are not a good idea for tracks.
