2001 trx 250ex

rebuilt the motor wtih new rotating assembly. goes through all foward gears fine but, when I try to shift into reverse the light comes on but now gear. Any ideas?

happened to my 300ex, they said unless thee is a new transmission kit installed, it is unfixable
