Default 2007 & 2008 Rubicon 500 problems

I recently purchased a 08 and 07 TRX500 and I am having problems with the throttle response from both. When you start them, not everytime, Id say 3 out of 5 times, you can't just hit the gas. If you do, they spit and sputter like the choke is on and give this putt putt putt etc..... and will not go anywhere.

Cut them off and restart them, then they are fine. Sometimes it takes 2 or 3 times starting and cutting off to get it to run correctly.

are you letting them warm up fully before you do this?

Hey man, I have a 05 Rubicon that is doing the exact same thing. Although mine has only done it twice and hasn't done it any more. I though maybe it was the fuel filter but if it was that I figured it would do it more.

I hope it isn't anything serious. I had a 2001 rubicon that I flipped several times destroying it and it did the same thing. It would idle fine but couldn't give it gas.

How many miles are on your machines? Mine is getting a little age on it, about 5100 miles.

I am going to keep an eye on this thread.

Yeah they warm up and everything fine, I only have about 100 miles on the 08 and the 07 has less than 30. It will do it even after you have rode for a while

ok, i figured you did but wanted to make sure,
That is really weird that both are doing it, i will have to think about what would cause that some. In the meantime someone with experience might pop in.
Your not at a really high altitude are you? Have you pulled the spark plug out and looked at it? Sounds like you are running rich.

The dealership pulled the plug on the 08 2 days after I bought it cause it wouldn't run. I had to take the 07 back also and they cleaned the plug, so they say, I changed the plug last friday and it was black as coal, and I had not rode it but once since they "cleaned" it, but it runs fine other than the putt putt putt from time to time. I used to have to hold the choke out on it to keep it running on the 07. As for altitude, I live in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, but not on top :-)

sounds like the carburetor needs adjustment because it is running to rich if your plugs are that black. I don't understand why the dealership didn't do anything about the fact that it is running rich. I would call the dealership and tell them they need to make some adjustments. Your throttle response is gone because your running so rich and all the carbon build up will weaken the spark which will cause the poor response. Eventually it won't start again when it gets bad enough.

Got plans on calling them tomorrow. The dealership I bought it from wasn't the greatest to deal with to start off with. I had a Yamaha waverunner I wanted to get rid of so they took it in on trace for the 08, so that is why I went that way. I never thought I would get 2 bad apples from them....
