Rancher 350 ES - lots of fuel dripping

Novice here - I just took the carb apart a few days ago, cleaned it and put it back together. It's been running great and still is, except for the fact that after I parked it in my shop, I discovered a big puddle of fuel on the floor coming from the drip hose attached to the carb bowl. I'm sure now that I must've done something wrong when I put it back together. Could it be the little plastic thingy in the bowl? That's the one part I wasn't sure of when I went back with it. Any ideas?

If by plastic thingy you mean the float then yes, that could be your trouble. The float has to come up and operate the needle valve to shut off the fuel when the bowl is full. If its not in right you can get a leak like your describing. It could also be binding from not being installed right, or you could still have dirt on the needle valve, it dont take much for it to leak.

Float could be out of adjustment (most likely you tweaked it while you had it apart), or it could be a bit if grit under the needle. I have had the grit thing before, and all I do is go out and land a couple of big jumps and it shakes things up enough to dislodge the grit.

Thanks for the info guys. I don't think the plastic thingy I'm talking about is the float though. This thing is cylindrical and was loose in the bottom of the bowl when I removed it from the carb. A buddy of mine said it might be some kind of splash guard??? Any idea of what I'm talking about? Do I even really need it? I have a feeling it might be what is interfering with the float...

Google a honda ATV parts diagram site and look at the exploded diagram of the carb. It'll describe all the parts below, and mostly show how it goes together. Heres one I use:

Thanks, Action450s. After looking at a diagram, it looks like the part I'm talking about is called the "jet holder". Guess I need to tear it apart again and figure out how that particular piece is supposed to fit in there.

the plastic piece is loose inside the carb, it will only sit one way when you loosely put it together. make sure that is right. if not. open the drain valve on the carb wait till all the fuel runs out. take off the main fuel inlet line. take a blow off air compressor tool and insert it into the brass nipple, jack the pressure up to about 100 psi and give it 3 good puffs of air, almost positive it will fix it, as long as you put the carb back together right

Thanks, LittleBill but I don't have an air compressor. Wish I did - but I don't.
Just took it apart again and no grit on the needle. The float seems to move fine except for just a wee bit of resistance when it gets near the top. I think that may be enough to keep it from closing off the fuel flow. Would there be any harm in me knocking that little pin loose that holds the float so I can remove it and see if I've got goop up in there? Will I be able to put it back together? I'm not sure how you are supposed to 'adjust' the float.

float not adjustable on a rancher. borrow a air compressor, what your suggesting is not a good idea. nothing i have read shows that as being removable. a carb by the way is over 200 bucks. think long and hard before doing what you say
