Default yfz450 or trx450r?

Both are excellent quads but I leaned toward the Yamaha this year.
As far as reliability is concerned, you would be hard pressed to find an engine builder who would say the Honda is the MOSt reliable. If anything, this is the most unreliable engine when riders start skipping on maintanance.

Keep the oil fresh, the air filter clean, and stay on top of valve adjustments and either machine is rock solid.

go with the new yfz 450r and youll never look back its all around faster than the honda my friend has a trx 450 with a stage two hot cam 13.5 compression piston and a port and polished head and i have never lost to him in the sand dunes. and as for suspension the new 450r is great i love it for jumping and trail its considerably softer than the old style plus a much larger seat for comfort

Default Youre an idiot!!

If I were you I would consider a raptor 700r as it is by far more reliable, faster and a better trail machine than any of the 450's. The torque band on the raptor is perfect for slow to fast trail riding!
Are you stupid or are you stupid? I agreed with you up until the last sentence. I own both a Yamaha and a Honda 450. And raced both of them at snowshoe, iron man and all rounds in the MAXC series both in an alternating fashion and I have more podiums on a Honda. The fact that you said that a raptor is the direction you would want to go is completely belligerent. Idk how many guys I have seen stranded in the woods because their craptor broke down on them. They just aren't meant for the woods. They're meant to be in a salvage yard somewhere. My advice is go for a Honda for trail riding. It's what a majority of cross country pros use.

First, have you seen the date on the post you responded to? Second, just because someone has an opinion that differs from yours is no reason for rudeness or name calling.

Even though it's about 5-6 years old now, dodge57hemi made a good point. For regular trail riding (not racing) the raptor is geared better, has more torque, and has a more reliable engine. It's the same mill in the grizzly which has been worry free. Hondas are typically the most reliable in a given class but the raptor isn't in the same class as a 450r. All of the 450s are esentially hot rods from the factory with aggresive cam profiles, titanium valves, more aggressive head porting and higher compression ratios (11:1+). The raptor on the other hand uses SS valves, a smaller cam and only has a 9:1 compression piston from the factory. The fact that the raptor (and most big bores) make there power at a lower and more constant rpm is a huge benefit to the life of engine components. The raptor will still be slighly faster in stock form and You could probably get 2-3 times the life from the top end of a big bore 700 compared to a 450.

That is the most ridiculous attitude I've seen on these forums. Your calling someone stupid based on opinion. Not only that, an opinion from 6 and a half years ago. Nobody asked about "MAXC series" and nobody cares about your "podium finish". It is FACT that the Raptor has more low end torque as was stated. It's your OPINION that it's not good. DODGE57HEMI's suggestion of a 700r would be echo'd by most in these forums. His suggestion was not belligerent in the slightest, in fact I'm curious if you know the meaning because, you sir, are the one being belligerent here.
