Got mine Saturday and went riding Sunday:

So it ran well, REALLY well.

I was asked to drag race a piped, and filtered 660r and beat him with NO problems. Mine is obviously still stock. I never even got all the way out of 4th. It was scary fast, but very stable at those high speeds. Not bad for mine being COMPLETLY stock.

I took it later on some technical hill climbs and descents with big rocks and loose stuff. The gearing seemed a little too high and I had to ride the clutch to keep it from killing. It was still very torquey and pulled the wheels in any gear.

It also did very well in the off-camber turns and was very forgiving when I did second gear wide sweeping donuts. I didn't think I would like the IRS, but I'm a new convert. It soaked up bumps that would have thrown me off into the scenery on my 400EX with ease.

1st gear is low, but like I said before, not low enough for technical stuff. It's great for drag racing though. 2nd gear rocks your socks. I never bottomed out or high centered ONCE.

(No, the fenders aren't touching the "wall".)

I also took it through some mudd that was about 6" deep at WOT and went through quickly. The mudd roost was epic.

I can't wait to uncork this with a slip on and a filter. Paddle tires for the dunes would be nice too.

Black plastics scuff easy, ESPECIALLY above the foot pegs.

Here are some more pictures before I went riding:

1st gear is just a little high, even though it's lower than the rest. (comparativly)

The torque was great, it just took me a little to get used to feathering the clutch on the rock crawling parts.

Clearance was great though. I was used to my 400EX and listening for the "bang".

I just got the new Quad magazine today and the tested the 700XX they say it is nowhere nere a 700R in power. Some [not Quad] people say it is closer to the output of a 400-450 quad.

Because of the weight allone it does Not take much to see it wont keep up w/ a Raptor!</end quote></div>

I whipped a filtered and piped 660r's *** Sunday - and I'm 260 pounds, and here's the important part......I suck at drag racing.

Here's some more info for you:

According to http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/o..._atv_um0030212_686.pdf

The new 700xx has 53hp at the crank, stock. That is higher than any other quad in production.

Here are a few other quads for comparison:
08 250ex: 16.8hp
08 300ex: 22.1hp
08 400ex: 34.2hp
08 450r: 42.6hp
08 700XX: 53hp
08 KFX450r:42.1
08 KFX700:48.8
08 Z400: 36.6hp
08 Ltr450: 41.6hp
08 Raptor 250: 18.8
08 YFZ450: 38.6hp
08 Raptor700r: 46.9hp

They made this engine over square (bore/stroke), so one would expect it to want to be ridden reved out, and not be lugged down....I think you verified that. Maybe a gearing change is in order for the trail???

Best not to make to much out of those CARB "at the crank" horsepower numbers! They completely ignore stuff like the weight of the machine, tires (both size and weight), final drive gear ratios, etc., etc.

And, where is the all important info like at what RPM it makes that horsepower, and how about giving us a torque curve????

Very interesting thoe I would be more interested how it would stack up against the likes of a 700R or a Outlaw 525 poss even the Renegade 800. One thing I will tell out of all the sport bikes I have ridden the 700R has the best stock spacing on the transsmission gear raitios, from a low first to a high fifth. Yamaha did there homework and it shows very well!! We will know soon enough as probobly every quad magazine has a comparion/shootout lined up.

From another forum, (the 700XX forum) I don't have a link to the graph, for all I know this could be someone's imagination, but here's what someone reported:

Ok these are preliminaries with slicks on at 5940 ft above sea level. I cant seem to load pics on the website. Ill try and get it figured out.
Peak Hp 45.97 @ 6900
Peak tq 36.03 @ 6150

Aside from can am renegade these are the highest ive ever gotten on a sport style bike.

Hey it's the Internet, doesn't me posting this make it a fact?

One more thing worth mentioning is that the 700XX is *only* 50 pounds heavier than the ready-to-to ride weight (full fluids) of the 700r.

Just something to consider when people compare the pervieved over-weightedness of the 700XX to the 700r.

Thanks guys!

50 or 100 pounds may be a trivial matter to utility riders who are use to 600-900 pound machines, but to 400/450 riders who are use to 350-400 pound machines....no way!

The XX is ~500 pounds, and the 450's are ~350 pounds, so that is ~150 pound difference.....that is huge. That would be like carrying a passenger all the time on one of the 450's.

I presume Honda did its best to keep the XX as light as possible????
