Getting bugs worked out, runs strong, no smoke but has some engine noise that is getting worse. Had valves adjusted and chatter seemed to go away..briefly. Now it's back and worse. Did find shavings in crank case. If i pull motor, what would be a ball park worse case on cost of rebuild? May tear apart myself if it doesn't justify its worth. Thanks.

 

It might just be the cam chain tensioner. I know it sounds pretty bad when its that far gone. Have you tried adjusting it? My guess, is its worn out, and the chain is slapping too far, and is wearing on the aluminum casting, causing the aluminum shavings in the sump.. Not a big deal to fix, and not very expensive.

 

Not familar with this machine, manual be in today or tomorrow. I had right crank case cover off to replace leaking gasket, assume chain was there with a cover or something on it? How do you adjust? Thanks for the help, and would be great if this is the problem. How do you adjust?
