I've got this 06 TRX500FM that the drive shaft yoke assembly busted, tore the output shaft seal, and bent the output shaft.

Does anyone know if the output shaft can be replaced with the engine in the frame - the service manual only covers replacement with the engine out..... I already have the gearbox & axle out.

Thanks.

I had the complete swing arm out of my 450 foreman last week to replace the swing arm bearings, and the shaft came off the motor no problem, and off the input spline of the rear axle gearbox. Not sure if its the same set up on the foreman 500 (the gearbox you refer to, is that the one on the rear axle?). If it is, take the whole swing arm right out of the bike, you may need to buy (I made one) a tool to fit the rear swing arm bolts.

For pictures of my repairs, check out www.sledsooley.com then click on the Area51 gallery in the left hand side index.

The output shaft is the splined shaft coming out of the rear of the engine - the rear cover has to come off the engine to replace this shaft. IMO it is a lot easier to remove the swing arm than the engine, especially since I am already half way there... but will this make the rear engine cover accessible enough to perform the task??
