I wouldnt have a problem with that. I am use to the MT. Im not a fan for the fully auto on a quad. I think that I am going for the ES mainly for the digital speedo...the ES really doesnt bother me one way or another. Thanks for the help so far.

Oh...one more question. Since I will have my wife riding with me a good bit...what are your suggestions for a rack pack? I was thinking the moose soft shell pack...but the guy at southern honda said to go with hard pack because with the soft...you tend to get thrown easily.....with my wife quickly saying that she didnt want to go flying...lol.

I just bought a 07 Rancher ES, and the main reason was to get the digital gauges. The only problem I have had, is that when you first crank it and the idle is a little higher when the choke is on, it doesn't always shift into 2nd (if you start in 1st) the first time you try. The local service manager said it was not a problem, it was normal. As soon as it warms up in just a second or two, it shifts normally.
I like the ES, you can keep you feet firmly planted on the pegs when standing or traveling across rough terrain.

The 420 shifts a little notchey, whether ES or foot shift. Frequent clutch adjustments help a little. Procedure is in the owner's manual.

I've had my rancher ES for about two years now and the only problem i've had with it is the wire plug under the bottom that allows you to go into reverse came unplugged one time, other than that I've put that poor rancher through anything and everything that i could find, rolled it, flipped it, drowned it- and flipped it at the same time, and it's wide open or off. I love that fourwheeler, as for the ES or the standard tranny, you reall should try both before you buy, theres times that i like both of them better than the other, if your wife is going to be driving she will probably like the ES better. But make sure to try it out first.

1. Around like 56 mph stock.

2. I wouldent get the es. The es u use ur hands to shift. The regular one u use ur foot to shift.

3. Sometimes

4. 4x4 is a must u never know what u will come a cross with on the trails. I would get the winch also.
