Default finally got an atv! please help..

To Action450s
"Buy a can of sea foam engine cleaner and add it to the gas according to the directions before your next ride. That may be enough to clean it out."

hey do u mean this will clean my carb out? Because I already drained the old gas and put in new..

And also I went to a site with this and it says spray through carb... is there any sites that can show me how to take apart a carb on a 400ex? Thanks!

PS

thanks for all your help guys, I really appreciate it!

I don't know of any personally, but take the carb out and there should be a screw near the bowl of the carb so you can drain the gas out without taking the bowl off. Also make sure to shut the gas off before disconnecting the fuel line from the tank or there goes 3 something a gallon lol. Take the bowl of the carb off and get a diagram of the jets usually from oem parts sites. Take the pilot and main jets out and spray carb cleaner through them making sure you can see light through them. Once you are done put em back in and be careful with the float when putting the bowl back on the carb tighten the screws up which like to strip out easily. Take the intake boots making sure they are fully on and tightened down and turn the fuel on and you should be good to go as for cleaning the jets in the carb. Check the rest of the carb looking for dirt and clean the rest of the areas which look like they could use cleaning while you have it out. Hope this helps.

check Bikebandit.com and look under their oem stuff and you should be able to find a diagram of the carb.

to be honest id love to completely take my quad apart and clean stuff, but ive never worked on anything before and im not so sure about me going in there and taking the carb apart lol...

i appreciate the help tho, and are there sites that happen to tell you how to take things apart? My older brothers friend helped me out cause the float was stuck in my carb (not sure what its for tho ha), but yea helped me out there.

bombrider when u say carb cleaner, is that the sea foam stuff action450s was talking about? because if there is something thats easy without taking apart anything which might clean out stuff id rather go with that. Hopefully Ill learn how to do this stuff soon so I wont hafta take the easy way out haha

Thanks for your help guys

PS just bought like $400 in gear and gonna ride this weekend

The float pretty much regulates the amount of gas going into the carb. The carb cleaner comes in a regular spray can so you can clean out the jets and the sea foam is prob in a can.(2 different things). Good luck and have a fun time riding. If you need advice on the procedure that will take you step by step talk to Honda Mechanic and ask for a copy, go to the local dealership and ask for the service manual procedure or go buy a service manual.

Also there are a lot of "copies" of the service manual out on the Internet. My dealer sold me mine for a whopping $69.
