If you can get it all for $800, by all means go for it.
How bad is the engine? Are the cases trashed? That's a place where the expense can come in.
If it's just "blown" and the cylinder isn't cracked, and the cases are all there, you can take it to a reputable shop and have them do a "split case" and check everything and do a basically "stock" rebuild for about $500 (depending on what they find in the transmission). That would put you at $1300 for a good running 250R which is really cheap!
