Honda 300 Fourtrax
#1
Hi brand new to this forum and 4-wheeling.. We recently got a 20th hand Honda 300 Fourtrax, it runs good just a slight leak of some sort at the top of the cylinder head that seeps if we've been riding long,(like longer than 2 hours) so we want to fix it up before it dies or somthing but we're struggling to identify what year, model, or type it is, I know the serial number stamped to the frame is supposed to give this info but how do we deceifer it? We were told its a 300cc "P" series 2WD.. but cant confirm anything, oh yeah its a 1999 model, or so we believe So....... if anyone wants to post how to check this stuff out, or wants a pic to help us identify the beast let me know.... Well no responses.. go figure, we phoned a dealer in the 'States cus its Canada Day here and everything is closed, and he very obligingly gave us the info, In Canada, the ownership doesnt exactly give you any info, Make Honda; Type ATV ;Powered Gasoline; Capacity 282cc; ETC So Were all ready to play with her, and were wondering where we can get newer "plastic" cus she looks like a truck at the moment and we want her sexier, we've already ordered a new seat on EBAY.. I guess it'll take time to figure everything out

It could be a few things causing the leak .. Top cover may need to be re-sealed (we use Hondabond or 3bond) , could be the valve inspection covers leaking a little (new o'rings would fix that) , could be the oil line sealing washer/banjo bolt (just need a new copper sealing washer) , or it could be the rear end over filled and dripping out the breather hose...

Thanks fella.... wow ok we're girls and weve just managed to get the plastic front fenders and carrier off without breaking anything(cept a nail) and we got to thinking "Do we really want to disassemble the head?" so we just tightened the bolts at the top up tighter,(We really dont have the right wrenches to do a major head overhaul)as we said in the first post, the seepage is very slight, hopefully the tightening works but we are really grateful, [img]i/expressions/heart.gif[/img] Thank you very very much for the info we've printed it out an d if the leak gets any worse we'll try and attempt it, but if we blow it up were gonna blame YOU
