How can you shift without letting off the gas? I have seen articles where you don't have to let off the gas to shift, and I rode an ES Rancher today and shifted like this and it did not sound like it was doing the machine any good. Isn't the ES essentially a manual shift with a motor changing the gears? What I have always been told is it is not good to shift these without letting off the gas.

Yes, the ES is basically a manual shift using a motor to operate the shifter instead of your foot. I would reckon the gearbox wont last long if you constantly shift with out letting off the throttle, especially under load. I've alwyas let off the gas when shifting.

I concur with action let off the gas the thing is a trail machine not a racer that gets the oil changed after every race and the clutch done after so many hours...
