Is a steering stabilizer an ad on to the steering stem or is it just a different type of stem?

Steering stabilizers mount to the frame on one end and to the existing steering stem on the other, usually it just clamps to the stem with a U-clamp.

For most types of riding a steering stabilizer is one of the biggest improvements you can make to your quad.
