Default 400ex air cooling

Hi
im am soon going 2 be getting a used quad and i cant make up my mind its going 2 be either a 400ex or a kfx400 im leaning towards the ex becuz it will be a lil cheaper the only real thing holding me back from it is the air cooling i know friends who have 250ex's and when we do a trail where we ride (its a 45 min ride up hill its pretty steep 2) they say they overheat up it and in the mud wen they are in the mud playing 4 a while they say they overheat. with my mojave i have never had this problem becuz its water cooled was just wondering if this happens often and if it will shorten the engine life of the 400ex cuz i want it 2 last a long time

i am not sure about the 400cc's but i have a 250 honda air cooled and i beat the S#*% out it and it only over heated once when my oil pump bit the dust and it's a 85 so i would not worry about it and honda's will always last a long time like i said mine is a 85 still going strong.Hope this helps.

Never had an overheating problem on my 400 or my 250......Realistically, you won't beat the crap out of the machine long enough to overheat it....90% of people, when riding, stop every so often to let themselves cool down.

i had a 250ex and when it would go through water or mud and it got on the engine sometimes it would stem and if you had shorts on you could fell it, but it never overheated on me. Now i have a 400ex and it does the same thing all it is is stem, i think the 400ex is a better quad.

Def go with the ex. It's an all around better quad. As far as overheating, you won't have to worry about it. My ex has never overheated on me. Be careful running into mud or water when the engine is hot though. EX's engines are cast aluminum, they will crack if they go from hot to cold. One of my buddies went full on into a river on his ex and his engine cracked. It was a big mess.
