I assume uni filter oil will work on other brands of (foam) filters too.?? Problably not K & N though. I've used bel-ray oil with no dust or ANYTHING past filter but darn, what a _ _ tch to work with. Sticky honey like oil that doesnt wash off with anything but gas.... i should try uni set instead. thanks reconranger. i think i should dump k & n also...

Uni will keep the dust out. Toss the K&N.
After you spray the filter with oil put it in a big ziplock bag and you can really work it into the filter without getting it all over your hands.
I clean my Uni filter with kerosene. It's best to have a couple of them so you can clean one and let it thoroughly dry while you are using the other.

Kerosene? cmon man, Just use dawn liquid dish washing soap. it removes ALL! oil from the filter.

And it doesnt Degrade the foam filter..
Guys I ride with all like to use gasoline kerosene and all other forms of harsh chemicals on their filters, and guess what.... They buy a new filter almost every 6 months from it being ate apart by these chemicals they use... Mine? well its on its 3rd year of service and still looks and feels brand new...

And I do agree on the plastic baggie. But beware as the baggie tends to over oil the filter badly.
So if you use that techniqe. Beshure to let it hang dry for a few hours bfore use...

I have yet to have the need to buy a new filter after having cleaned it with kerosene for four years now. The filter on my 400EX is 6 years old and still going strong. Kerosene is not nearly as harsh as gasoline and I feel it gets it cleaner than using dish washing liquid.
I've tried the dawn soap and I like using kerosene better. To each their own.

ok i know I dont want to get into a yelling match about what chemical is better....i've used gas on mine with bel-ray oil cuz dawn doesnt touch it... and i have had no ill effects on filter life..... i agree kerosene is less harsh & dawn even better, but i just used what worked.... all oil is petrolium based as is gas....if oil is ok to get on filter ,,then in my opinion so is gas....maybe harsher i agree......ok one more question.... winter storage. run with sta-bil then leave carb full or empty & why thanks again all!!

Sta-bil isn't the best to use. Seafoam works better IMO. Better yet to drain the tank AND carb. Definately drain the carb or turn of the fuel valve with the engine running and let it run the carb dry.
If you plan on storing it for the whole winter without riding it, I would recommend draining the gas tank and carb.

I highly suggest the ProDesign (ProFlow) adapter and foam air filter, along with the EHS Racing airbox lid with Outerwears!</end quote></div>

Yeah, that's what I'm running now.....I had the K & N...but it's not good for smaller engine, let's too much gunk through....great for vehicles....went to the Pro Design, less performance but better than stock, and no crap!
