450r

I know the 450's are produced and intended for mx racing but would the 450r be ok for trail riding? From what I have read the yfz isnt all that great for trails so I'm here looking for suggestions because I plan on selling my Z soon and upgrading. Any suggestions are appreciated.

If by "trail" riding you mean tight technical trails, then none of the high reving 450's is a great choice. For that venue, you want a 400EX.
If you mean faster more open trails or wide open country, then the 450 is a great choice! The chassis and suspension are superb, but like he said if you want to go slow you will have to do some clutch slipping.

I have the '05 TRX 450R ...............can't I cheat and put on a 12 tooth front spocket and say a 40 tooth rear sprocket ? Then it would be more suited for trails and I wouldn't need the top end ?? I sure hope so -because that is what i`m doing .
These freaking 450's are made to go like bats out of hell- but I got one for my wife for trail riding and without the gear changes ..........she ain't going anywhere near the thing let alone ride it !

yeah, I think you would be shifting like no tomorrow haha!
That or it might be so low, you don't need to shift from a high gear!
