I just bought a '01 Mojave this weekend so you can guess what my opinion is going to be. The reasons I went with a Mojave was because it has more suspension travel, a more advanced engine with liquid cooling, weighs only 2 pounds more, the reverse is easier to use, doesn't have electric start (I hate messing with a battery and also the 300EX doesn't have any backup starting system), fender design keeps you dryer/cleaner, the Mojave looks better and the biggest factor it was $3999. $800 less than the Honda.

I used to have a 250X before my Mojave and my brother had a '94 Mojave. I got to compare my 250X directly with the '94 Mojave and there was not a whole lot of difference. The 250X had better low end power and the suspension was more plush. The Mojave required that you rev it out a bit to get power but it wasn't a big deal. The power on the Mojave is better suited for snow riding since the tires are always spinning and the power comes in at higher rpm's. This makes it easier to keep the motor in the meaty part of the powerband. I noticed the Mojave climbed snow covered hills better than the 250X because the low end power of the Honda caused you to shift early and risked losing your momentum since it couldn't always pull the next higher gear.

A couple of the guys I ride with had 250X's and 300EX's. They said the 250X's were quicker than the 300EX's. I don't know if this is true but it is what they told me. I know my 250X was faster than my brother's Mojave at top speed but his machine was quicker. Powerwise, aside from delivery, they seemed pretty close.

Some things I don't like about the Mojave are the dismal front headlight. When the machine is at idle the light becomes so dim that it resembles the Road Toad light off my mountain bike. At speed the light throws out a weird halfmoon shaped beam. The light on my old Honda was better. I am also disappointed the amount of accessories available for the Mojave. I could get anything I wanted for my 250X but the Mojave does not have as large of an aftermarket following. I'm not sure why this is since the machine has been around since mid '86.

Bottom line, both machines are pretty similar in performance, ride and handling. I prefer the Mojave's higher revving powerband. The 300EX is not worth the $800 increase in price over the Mojave. if you must have electric start then you will pay for that luxery. One thing to think about that the magazines forget is that the Mojave and Honda are the same age in design. The only difference between the 300EX and the old 250X is the electric start and 282cc bore. Those are not ground breaking changes! The mag's love to harp on the age of the Mojave when in reality is was released 6 months earlier than the Honda and is more advanced in many areas. Anyhow, my 2 cents.

Take a look at the Blaster. It gives you more bang for the buck.. $2999.00

The downfall is you do not get any of the nice to haves.. Like elec. start or reverse.

Well, i guess if you just look at my name you'll know what i'm about to say, but what the hell.
I've ridden both and both have pros and cons.
First of all, regardless of whether the mojave has more travel or not, the suspension on the 300ex is way more like a sport quad suspension than what the mojave has.
The 300ex's suspension absorbs bumps rather than just trying to bump you off the quad. (no offense to you mojave guys...LOL)
Although they are pretty close in weight the 300ex seems to have more of its weight in the center of the quad which makes it handle slightly better.
Liquid cool vs. air cool. Both have pros and cons, liquid cool is great because its pretty hard to ever overheat it. BUT you will have to maintain that cooling system, while the 300ex guys can use that money/time on aftermarket parts.

Kickstart vs. Electric start -Again, both have their good sides and bad sides. The mojave is pretty easy to start with it's kick starter and it alot more reliable than the electric starter of the 300ex BUT just wait until you flood the engine on the mojave and after about 40-50 kicks you get it started and tell me how much you love that kick starter...LOL
The worst thing i hated about the mojave's kick starter was the positioning of it. Every other time i kicked it over i hit my leg against the side of the quad. After doing that a few times it gets old...LOL

Before i bought a quad i borrowed my friends mojave and loved it. Then when i finally bought my 300ex i couldn't believe the difference.

Obviously i'm telling you to get a 300ex, but your best off trying both out for yourself and decided that way. Their both great quads.

One last thing i forgot to add.
There was one other thing that made me decide to buy the 300ex over a mojave.
There are a TON of aftermarket parts for them out there. You can get everything you could possible want to make the 300ex faster, lighter, better looking, and better handling.

well, when i wanted a new 4-wheeler there was no thought of a mojave.

I totally hate how you sit on the machine. The bars are so slow, i had a hard time sitting/standing.

The machines to me are totally different in power. I never really spent a lot of time on a mojave, so i won't go into great detail, but i just didn't think the mojaves power matched a 300ex. Seemed like you were struggling all the time.

Looks? the mojave is butt ugly. That green. *gags*

I'm all for electric start. My 300ex never has given me battery trouble or anything like that.

The mojave requires more matinience. Liquid cooling, and for modding, Those DOHCs!

To me, the 800 dollars isn't a question, with 800 you can't make a mojave handle or be as powerful as a 300ex. The 300ex is just a better quad, and always will be IMHO!

My couisn has a mojave(same one with a 400ex)anyway I rode it and like it.It sits a little lower for better cornering and has decent power.I only rode it in a big feild so I don't know about the suspension.

But I have a 97 300ex and the only other stock qaud I would trade for it the 400ex or raptor.I know The 300ex isn't exaclty can't can't the front tires on the ground power. But It has a nice smooth power delivery that will get you about anywhere. And It Has NEVER giving me anytype of electrical or engine problems.the suspension is excellent and it handles pretty good to.The stock rear tires SUCK!Replace them and it will be a different bike! The 300ex is an exclent sport qaud and can handle it own against just about anything on trails.

and about the blaster. You don't get electric start, brakes, reverse, decent chain adjustment. You do get decent suspension and peppy power though.
