250EX vs 250X which one is better?

I have to agree with Aaron, get the 300ex.
You wouldn't be sorry. If you get the 250x, you will have to kickstart and have more upkeep. The 250ex is nice, but the power of the 300ex is much better. You can find some really nice 2000 & 2001 bikes out there for cheap. Good luck.

Ya get a 300ex or 250x especially if you a born to race. If your a way short onmoney get a 250x if not save up and get a 300ex an old bike will end up costing more if its is in bad shape little things wrong with it add up and end up costing more. i found this out the hard way with my 250x

I agree with everyone else, get a NEW 300EX, it's a tad more powerful with the same suspension as a 250X, and it's got electric start like the 250EX
the only advantage to the 250EX is it's more trail friendly with and auto-clutch and easier-to-use reverse... but the 250EX does not have the top speed nor the suspension that the 250X or 300EX does. The 250X is a tad slower and is a kick-start.

The 250X and 250EX are not even in the same league. Look at the 300ex. You will be bummed when you see the weight of the 300ex, 377lbs as compared to the 350lbs of the 250X. That is what happens when they add girly features to a sport machine. It would be a pain but if you could find cherry '91 250X or later (I can't remember when they quit building them) you would have a better machine.

I have a '91 250X, it is as fast as a 300EX
it's dry weight is 361lbs., that's just 16lbs. lighter than the 377lb. 300EX
the 250EX has the most "girly" features and it weighs the least at 349lbs.
and I own a new 250EX, which the powerband is not noticably different than my 250X until 5th gear, wide-open-throttle approaching top speed...
the 250EX will ride wheelies in 1st and 2nd and still lift the front in 3rd!

I am the odd ball here, I would get the 250X.. You will spend a lot less money in the beginning and you will have a little more power also..
You can take the money you save and upgrade and it is not hard to find a 250x in really good condition. I found my 87 and it was bone stok other than a pipe and bars. I did some mods to it and I have a lot less into it than a new 300EX would cost.
Plus I like the Kickstarter better than the electric start and the 250x weighs a little less.(Elec. Start adds around 60lbs.)
So if I were you, I would either get a 250x or if you can afford it, get a 400Ex....

i think saying find a 250X is bad advice.
Ok ok, if you can find a perfect one..lets say a 92 last year. Its perfect..they want 2000 for it. like there are many of those
yeah hmm..i paid 3500 OTD for my 00 300ex..
So you get that 92(a non-perfect one)..for lets say 2000.
its 8 years old. Thats, ts say the guy road it 5 hours a week, 2060 hours!! Or he could be like the some of us..and ride for 3 or 4 hours a day in the summer.
Wow, a lot of wear on shocks, bearings, bushings, crank, cases, tranny. Everything.....
by the time you get it so that it won't break down and be reliable you could of bought a new 300ex. here they are 4,700 OTD(i bought a used one guy traded it for a scrambler 500!)
This just my opinion. Take it with a grain of salt if you don't like it

To start the 250x is better. Now between the 300ex and the 250x is a tough choice. once again the 300ex is newer and has a (hehe) electric start. I bought my '91 X about a year and a half ago for $1500 and have not had any problems, of course it was in good shape. The only reason I have opened up the motor was to do upgrades. Stock it is a little slower than a stock 300ex but can easily modded to stay with or beat them. For the price or little more of a 300ex a well modded 250x can play with the 400ex's and have better woods handling. THE END
