I juist piked up A 97 300FW last week . it runs great but the rear needs rebuilding
and the brakes are shot ..i cant wait to get this thing in the mud .Iv'e got the rear tore down and am waiting on parts to arrive.
new *rear axle berrings/ seals
*rear diff. berrings
* warn 2x4 to 4x4 front drive shaft
* tires *27" kenda exicutioners 10"wide in front and 12' in back
I also was checking the font cv axles and noticed play in the front diff. so its on the list of things to do ........
Im new to the forum and would like to hear what you guys have done to your 4x4s to make them better faster or just look cool

To make my Rancher 350 better and faster...I added fuel injection, water cooling, and better suspension (the Rancher 420!).

Seriously, there are lots of old 300 out there still going strong, but I would not ruin that sweet machine with huge tires. The Warn 424 is the best mod you could ever make.

I went with 26x12s on all four of my wheels. You loose a bit of low end torque and some of the handling ability. I am debating on whether I should stick with this size until they wear down or go ahead and switch out to 26x9s for the front.
But I will say having the added traction of the bearclaws is a nice thing.

Just an FYI.

Yeah, the 27's are pretty large for a 300, I'd go 26 especially with a deep lug tire, you'll notice the strain when the tires are loaded up with mud.

Great bike though, one of our crew has a 1999 300 and its damn near bullett proof, great bike. The Warn 424 is a fantastic Mod.

dang i ordered them before i even posted here they should be here this week
guess ill have to pipe and jet the thing now

I was deffenatilly looking for hgh traction and a large foot print because my mud hole is a swamp wich is soft swamp mud and the rest of the trails are sandy where ill be running in 2x4 mode

Im now working on rebuilding my rear transfer and replacing the front with a good used one I want to lift it but some of my trails are on the side of a hill and I dont want to make it roll to easy

Well, if it has trouble turning them, I'd bet you would be able to trade someone.

Also, with regard to a lift, and not wanting to be tippy on sidehills... With a solid rear axle you really don't gain much in the way of ground clearance, so if it were mine I wouldn't go any higher than needed to clear whatever tires you run...

Anyway, have a good time with it.
