I have the same machine. Take a 6mm allen wrench and as you sit on the floor behind the ATV, loosten the two allen heads on the back of the axle. Then take the same wrench and fit it into one of the slots on the left side of the axle and rotate the axle ring by pushing or pulling on the wrench. You want more slop in the chain than you think. I believe it's 1 1/2". This is because the swing arm pivots in a different spot than the drive sprocket. So, if you were to bottom out the back shock, you wouldn't want the chain to be so tight at that point that it would break.
BTW, if you're interested in a racing cam for your 250, I have one and heavy valve springs that go with it.

Thanks for the tips. Greatly appreciated. No use on he cam. I am very much a stock engine kind of person. Spend way too much time just keeping my cars on the road. When it is time to play I just want to ride, not race for 15 minutes till something breaks and wrench for three hours.

Na, too much work, just gona sell it.
Actually it is up at our cottage. I already put stabilizer in the fuel so between that and the fact that I probablly won't get up there again till thanksfiving I'd say my four wheeling is over this year. Next time I go up I will be riding a snowmobile!

ns Id love to have a fourth honda ........and on the chain adjustment dont forget to loosen or remove the bolt in the middle/bottom of the swing arm before turning it ,and you can get some on to jump on the back of the quad when your done while you inspect the chain tension or use a rachet strap to compress the rear shock (like budedem said to tight is not good) and if its clanking on the skid its too loose
