The difference in the "R" and the "ER" is the ER has electric start. That's all.

if your trails are really tight and have alot of hills and just really long trails i would go with a 400ex and also i think the 400ex would be a little less in maintance,if the trails are more open then go with the 450r but your the one who is goin to be riding it

i personaly think that the 400ex's are better just b/c u dont have to play with the clutch as much as a 450r. but if you want a race bike get a 450r but a 400 will keep up if you have the money to get a bore kit 426 willl be fine!

You can change the gearing on a 450R to make it the same. But still, good points.

I was right where you are 2 months ago. I went for the 400ex and couldn't be happier. I have had more fun on this quad! It was hard to find a nice used one though. I do like being able to ride slow with the kids and I have no problem riding fast with the boys. It works real good in the snow too. Most used 450r's I looked at were kick start and not always easy to start. I would love to save up and get a 450r too! Maybe some day. I do love my 400ex! Jeff
