Weird 400ex Problem
#1
Ok, here goes. cant seem to figure it out: If my quad is sitting there, I turn the key but the light doesn't come on. I know the first thing that comes to mind is a battery or alternator problem, but my electric start is working perfectly, I recently replaced the battery. Also if the quad is in neutral, and the key is on, the electric start won't work, but if I pull in the clutch it starts right up. Also I know the first thing that comes to mind with that one is that it's in gear, but when I let the clutch out it continues to idle, showing me that it is in fact in neutral. Any help will be greatly appreciated. thanks.

do you have, or know where I can get a diagram of this, or could you simply explain it to me, because I dont understand "under the shifter" or "the switch on the clutch perch". what do these two look like? thanks, burke

Mine does the same thing off and on. There is a neutral switch to the left of the shifter mount below the gear (according to the book), chances are it's bad. I just pull the clutch in to start if the switch doesn't work. But if you really want I can send you the page that explains how to test/change it and shows a pic.
