Default new to me: 88 fourtrax 300

Tonight i picked up a wheeler from my wifes family farm. the thing has been sitting for at least 4+ years with out moving. Both rear tires are flat and dry rotted, seat is trashed, gas tank is a little bit rusty. They also told me that it sometimes has an electrical gremlin that causes it to quit running.

I did put some fresh fuel in it, and got it to run for about 30 seconds before it popped, and sputtered out. and my battery died.

so here it is, such that it is..

this is my first atv, so any advice would be appreciated.

also does anybody know where i can find any manual at?

thanks for the replies guys.

well to me it looks like my biggest problem right now is getting the dry rotted tires fixed. then getting the carb cleaned out, and ive found the left brake lever is all jammed up. gonna have to figure out how to either unstick it, or just buy a new cable

Left lever is for the rear brakes. The arm coming out of the rear brake drum is probably seized up. See if you can move the arm with your hand, you might have to undo the cables to get a more accurate feel.

well i got alot of the thing tore down tonight

and i got the carb taken off. I have two questions about it. first, what is the little thing i have circled in red? it almost looks like a hookup for a breather tube. and second. what is the black **** for? is it just a primer?
