Default Hot Cams

Well what happened is that my timing chain stretched out and making a ticking noise on whatever its rubbing on. We did a vavle adjustment and all of them were fine. So he said i should buy a Heavy duty timing chain and a chain tensioner since that could be shot aswell. He also said since were already in there and everything is off we should replace the sprokets as well. He told me he would hate to just replace the chain and later come back for a chain tensioner. Since everything is off i was going to buy the HotCam Stage II Cam. He said he would recommend it but i would need a different chain tensioner. I tried calling him today but he didnt return my call yet. Im going to get answers for us tomorrow

If your chain was stretched it makes sense to change it all while you are there. The single best modd I did was drop in a hot cam, deffinetly the best bang for the buck.

What else would i need to drop a Stage II HotCam in? Nothing right? I think im going to leave the sprokets alone untill i see them in person when we open her up. Im going to pick up a Chain tensioner also to go with the timing chain.

IMO the ONLY reasons to change sprockets on a 400EX is 1.) They are wore out or 2.) 22" tires.

It probably wouldnt be a good idea to change the timing chain gear ratio................But, ya, if you change the chain you should change the sprockets. Your mechanic sounds legit. If he looked at it and recommends changing the tensioner , then I would do it.

Im talking about the sprokets for the timing chain. He said he would change them if it were him. But im not going to buy the sprokets unless i need them (Worn out) If they are worn out when we take it apart then i will order a new sproket. It would be a OEM sproket so it wouldnt change the timing at all.

Hmm. Never seen one wear out before. Don't mean it can't happen.
