I just bought my first ATV and it's a 2005 TRX500FA. I've wanted one of these for 35 years and finally bit the bullet. I plan to buy a plow and winch but would like some advice. A few questions for you pros.
1. Will any winch fit the TRX500FA with the proper mount?
I noticed it appears to be mounted internally behind the plastic. I hate to order one off the internet and find out it doesn't fit. I only plan to use for plowing. Should I go WARN or go with a cheaper VIPER, GORRILLA etc.
2. Any recommendations for the plow for the ruby?
I'm thinking of going Moose 60 but havn't decided to go with county or standard plow. I found a Moose 60 kit for 485. Will the ruby push a 60 inch plow ok or should I get a 50.
3. Any cons to using a 60 versus a 50 inch plow?
Basically looking for good advice for plow and winch for Ruby! Your help is much appreciated.

theres nothing wrong with a VIPER winch. some people nock them, but they are the only ones that are advertized as being completly waterproof. look carefully and make sure the winch you are buying is specifically for your atv, and they will send a model specific mounting plate. alot of winches come with just as much, if not better warrantys than a warn winch, but at half the price.
as far as plows, i dont know why a rubicon wouldnt push a 60" plow. buy a plaw based on the size of your drive way, small driveway= small plow IMO
good luck

iv had a viper winch for 2years, it has served me well. the warranty they offer is equal to warn, im not sure on ramsey. i would be surprised if a viper winch would let you down, because they are older model warn winches themselves! i use my winch frequently and even under water it works with no hesitation.

I've had good luck with Warn, but they are expensive. Warn and KFI both make mount plates for your machine.
I would suggest going with a synthectic cable. As I understand it constantly flexing in the same spot is tough on steel cables.
I don't own a plow, but I would think you would want the 60" so it's path is wider than the ATV's tracks when the blade is angled.

Thanks for your input. I've decided to purchase a 60 inch Moose plow with a manual lift for now. Most people I've talked to say it's faster and more efficient to use the manual lift versus the winch. If I don't like the manual I'll buy a winch later. I paid $530 for the Moose 60 plow, push tub, mount plate and manual lift. That was the best price I could find.

Thanks guys. If anyone wants a free Honda Rubicon Repair Manual for the years 2005-2008. There are four downloads left on the link below for 2005 - 2008 Honda Rubicons I purchased off the internet. It's good for 120 hours or 5 total downloads.
