Default 2002 Recon ES Help

I recently got a 2002 Recon ES which had been sitting for a year and a half before I got it. I replaced the battery, installed new brakes, changed the spark plug, and took it to the local Honda shop for a carb rebuild and gas tank flush. Now it either revs and runs without pushing the gas, or it idles low, wants to die when idling, and is fouling the spark plugs a dry black. What should I adjust or check to get the idle correct and stop the spark plug fouling. Also what kind of spark plug should I get? Is the OEM NGK plug best or is their a higher end plug that is more foul proof?

Default 2002 Recon ES Help

ngk plug. sounds like an air leak if its wanting to rev on its own. but i would also adjust your pilot jet, sounds like its running rich anyway.

first try a vaccum test. take off air filter, place hand over air intake. turn kill switch to off. then press starter until the engine turns over a couple times. that will create a vaccum in the intake. the vaccum should be fairly strong, keep you hand there for a min. if the vaccum is still strong there is no intake leak. but if the vaccume dosnt hold you have an intake leak.

after you do that adjust the pilot jet 2 5/8 turns out. the pilot jet is the brass skrew closest to the engine itself. turn it in until it seats then out 2 5/8 turns.

hope this helps, its my best idea

I tried the vaccum test and at first it had vacuum but went away fairly quickly. Since it is fouling plugs I also drained the carb bowl. Now it doesn't have vacuum at all. Is that normal, and if not where could the leak be at?
