My 03 Rincon will not shift into 3rd in ES or auto. The dash shows it changing to 3rd in ES but it never shifts. It will run to the rev limiter at 38mph in 2nd but it won't shift to 3rd. Any suggestions or is there anyway to check for a code?THanks for any help

 

The first thing I would look at is oil level. You need to let the machine idle about 4 minutes (without bliping the throttle) and let it sit a couple minutes before checking to get an accurate level. Low oil will cause shifting problems.

The other thing that pops into mind is the early Rincons had a problem with blowing out an O ring. The result would be low oil pressure that causes the transmission to slip. There are 3 test ports, but they are a funky thread, so it would probably make sense to take it to the dealer to check oil pressure (rather than fabricate a fitting for a gauge yourself).

Generally, the Rincon's transmission is known for being pretty bullet proof, save for the O ring on the first ones.
