CDI, Ignitor Question.

I am trying to develop a pattern to a problem i am having with my ATV. I may need to spend more time observing the problem but generally, I am not getting a spark when the atv is cold. Then, if i tap on the CDI box with a heavy object like the handle of a screwdriver, the atv will start. Once it starts, i can turn it off and restart without trouble. However, when it sits overnight and is cold, i need to tap the cdi box to get it to spark and start.
I got a quote on replacing the cdi and it was almost $300, otherwise i would simply replace the unit without posting this topic. Given the cost, i was interested in hearing some feedback as to what might be going on here. I don't see a pattern tied to getting wet or too hot, etc. It is kinda strange.
Any thoughts?

I had the same problem with my 2000 rancher. I took it to the dealer and they played around with it. They decided it was the CDI box. My dealer called Honda, and Honda said that sometimes the cold solder joints in the CDI box, when it is cold, may cause the problem. I replaced my CDI box and all was well. The cost of the CDI box was less than $100.00. Also, after having the new one installed, I tried to take the old one apart to see it I could see what was wrong. It was full of a resin and impossible to fix.
