Default Help!

me and a buddy were riding a his bayou 300. it had no oil-so we put some in it. later we went for a ride and as we were going-it sounded as if some one hit the gear shifter and it reved up real hi. now it wont come out of gear-it will crank by pull cord so i know its not the engine----i need some advice on wat it might be or how to fix the trans... the dealer wants 90 buks to just look at it and i got it.help!!!

what oil did you use? car oil? the friction modifiers in car oil can mess with how your clutch grabs, but thats usually over time.

it sounds like a shift fork may be broken. dealer time unless you have the time/space to take it apart

yea its car oil didnt konw it would hert it like that-so i should drain it -see if it will change gears-put the right oil in it? if nthat dont work-shop?!

iv never heard of car oil hurting a clutch THAT fast, it usually takes alot of rideing and time before car oil will kill a clutch. more likely its a shifter fork. what gear is it stuck in?

if its stuck in first or reverse you can try adjusting the reverse cable. the reverse cable runs from the handlebars to the tranny. if ther isnt enough tention on it, or too much tention, it wont allow you to shift.

like i said before it sounds like a shifter fork in the tranny

i think its stuck in 5th but im not sure cause we tried to get in a dif gear-but prob 5 or 4 - the gear shifter feels like its grabing somthing but slips off. i dont know i never really liked nothing but a Honda for a 4 wheeler any but...... ill try it thankx for the help!!!!

if its in that high of a gear its a tranny prob. sounds like its stuck since the engine is free an the clutch wont engage. take it to a shop where the know ATV's

wats the easiest way to tear into the tranny-i mean i have the tools!and time-he wants to look at it and see if we can see the problem-any diagrams or websites you mite could tell me about to see the inside-(were the fork is or wat its supposted to look like ?
