Honda 300ex

Default Honda 300ex

here i am replaced starter and still doesnt start...someone told me to replace starter clutch.if this is what i need to do, can i get a diagram of how to remove this.

what is it doing ?is it free spinning the starter?or is the starter not making any noise?i loaned my manual out to a friend srry but i belive the starter clutch is a one way berring in the left side cover..
more info will help..

i do have a spare side cover with the starter gears in it ill get some pics up this afternoon if some one dosn't beat me to it....you can access those gears through the small plastic cover in front of the starter( on left cover by reverse handle)

the starter is free spinning. i took those gears out and their nothing wrong with them.

if all the gears are ok its must be the starter clutch....wich bolts to the flywheel ...it has a one way berring in it so it allows the starter gear on the fly wheel to free spin one direction and locks up the other direction..

They usually shear the woodruff keys off, I can't remember if those come with the clutch or not.. look for that when you take it apart.. I know hardware stores don't sell them because its some off the wall metric one.

a new left side crankcase gasket isnt a bad idea ....you can use hondabond though..its like rtv only honda uses it at the factory for some parts..
