Honda Rancher ES died in 1st gear wont shift
Okay so I see this same thing listed a bunch of times. Here is my stupid question, I just got this rancher 350 es used, I do not know where the manual shift is...something also mentioned a tool box containing the majic manual shifter, where are they! So I can try to get this thing out of 1st gear and start it back up? Yes I rocked it already, still no gear shift.
Charged the batt all day, plenty of lights...do not hear the shifter even doing anything when the button is pressed...SOOOooo how do I find and then manual shift....stop laughing this thing is stuck half way across my ranch!

you could jump the cylinoid and start it.......trace the large red wire from the battery to the cylinoid switch..(it will bolt on here )there will be another large red wire coming from this to the starter .....now if you turn on the key and use a screwdriver to make a contact from bolt to bolt on the cylidiod it will turn over the motor ,and start or move the engine enough to get it in Netural( becarful not to let the scredriver touch the frame when jumping the cylinoid..

Honda Rancher ES died in 1st gear wont shift
Hey Thanks! I since located the secret Tool Box and locatd the manual shift tool and got it out of 1st gear an into Nuetral. But think I am going to get new battery as it just makes clicking sound when I try to start it...perhaps there is enough charge for the lights but not to give enough power to start it up.....I had it charging all day yesterday - well before and after getting it stranded on the other side of my place! So for now will try a new battery. This one must not be able to fully charge anymore...Thanks again for the info, sounds like short starting a tractor!

If the solenoid clicks when you depress the starter button, it is good. If it buzzes the battery is most likely shot. In the first mentioned scenario (clicking) try tapping on the starter woth a small hammer or wrench while holding the starter button while in neutral. If the unit turns over the brushes are worn in the starter. Tapping the starter makes contact.
On another note... With the unit in gear and jumping the solenoid with a plier or screwdriver, it will turn over but not start. The quads CDI has to see a neutral signal in order to have spark. In short, it will not fire unless in neutral.
