when i try to start my 2005 honda 400ex it wont start. all it does is start clicking. i tried to turn on the lights and they worked. what is wrong???

 

It could be a couple things it may be the starter solenoid, or it could be a loose or dirty battery terminal.

 

it may new a battery and the lights turn on but not enough power to crank it..(the clickin) how bright are the lights?.... take it to the top of a hill while ur on it let it get going as fast as it will go and drop it from nuetral into 1s... if it starts u need a battery

 

it may need a battery( correction)

 

i answered prob the battery in the other thread ,coroded or loose connections can cause this as well

 

THE LIGHTS ARE VERY BRIGHT

 

tap on the starter when you are pushing the start button

Under the carb to the back of the bike....

With an 05 i'd to think the the starter hasn't gone out.. but id like to think the solenoid before the the battery or the starter....

you could bypass the solenoid ONLY to see if it engages the starter. ....

 

well something wierd happend i hooked it up to the charger and it started so i know that the battery just needed to charge and when it started i hit the throttle something started to smell like it was burning but i thing it was that i didnt let the oil to circulate and the metal in the engine was rubbing.
