bearing seal.
well i was putting my 250x engine back together and when i went to set in the bearing my setter sliped and i took out the seal on the bearing...my question is how importent is this seal? i know it must be kinda importent cause honda put it there but i really do not want to spend 41 bucks on a new bearing. it the bearing on the shaft that goes through the case out to wear the sprocket mounts.

The seal serves to purposes. It helps keep too much oil from causing the countershaft seal (the seal behind the sprocket in the case) from pushing oil out when the quad is riden side hill sprocket side down. Also when the quad is side hilled the other way (sprocket side up) this seal will help retain oil within the bearing so it does not run dry as most of the tranny oil is on the other side of the engine at this point. Also, the countershaft has oil passages running through it. The gear next to the bearing has an oil hole in the shaft where it rotates. This seal will deflect oil pressure from pushing oil out of the sprocket case seal also. I have seen where people leave this seal out and the bearing prematurly fails from lack of lube or the sprocket seal leaks as a result. If you have a bearing supply store near, hi tthem up to see if they have that size of seal for the bearing. You may need the brand and number of the bearing when calling them.
Worst case, reinstall the seal on the bearing and run it that way. As long as it seals around the outer circumference you should be ok. Best to round up another seal though
