hey guys, i've got a question for ya

okay a guy i work with has a 250ex that he bought not running (i haven't seen it yet) and wanted me to look at it. he says that it will free spin when trying to start it then its like it will catch and will hit once or twice then free spin again.

any ideas what this could be?

also how hard is it to get to the camshaft on these? i have only messed will overhead cam quads and someone told me these are ohv.

Sounds like the starter clutch is bad there are 3 pieces to the starter clutch and it sounds like you'll need more than the sprag .. The cam is behind the manual & centrifugal clutches .. If you remove the cam then first remove the top cover & push rods and be VERY careful the cam buckets don't drop inside the crankcase when the cam is removed (if 1 or both drop inside the cases the cases have to be split to remove them) When we work on the cam we stand the bike on the rear wheels & rear rack and hold the buckets up with a couple of small pen type magnets ..
