Default Steering Damper

When I'm going through rough terrain, rocks, ruts I have the bars pulled from one hand or the other. I'm old & I've lost some of my grip. I can remember back when I rode Desert Bikes, we had steering dampers. Does any one make them for Quads. In my case Rincon??

Thank You Tony:

Default Steering Damper

I remember seeing one set up for racing that had a damper attached to the front rack. There was a hole cut in the little black cowl, so it could attach to the steering stem.

I was looking at putting one on mine, and if I recall correctly I asked Denton Racing about using one of their dampers, and they essentially said they'd need to know the diameter of the steering stem and whatever the other end was to be ancored to.

I never got around to messing with it, and I see dentonracing's web page doesn't come up....

Anyway, I wouldn't think it would be too tough to do. I thought it was strange that Honda put power steering on the rougher riding solid rear axle machines, but not on their IRS. I think maybe they are trying to keep to a self-inflicted weight limit for quads, or something.

Thanks Jeffin
I was wondering about the power steering also - always a reason to buy a new Quad.

Default Steering Damper

Goofing around on Google, I searched rincon steering damper, and it hit on motojoe and a page for pro control steering damper, which had a place to enter make/model/year. I threw in Honda/Rincon/2006, and it came up with one.

Also, I've found softer grips are really helpful. I have a bit of carpel tunnel, which generally only bothers me when I weightlift heavy, or bicycle a lot or ATV ride in cold weather. I've found that gauntlet type gloves help a lot.

Lastly, with quads 1/2 a pound of air pressure in the tires can drastically change ride and handling.

Let us know what you do.

Jeff

Is Denton still around? I was surprised when I went to their site I had bookmarked, and it didn't come up...

You see many steering dampener/stabilizer kits on the net for sale but they all seem to be bolt ons for Sport ATV only from what I see.

Yeah, I think for utilities it's a matter of measuring the stem diameter, and getting one with the mount for that diameter.

The other end of one I saw on a Rincon was attached to the front rack, but looking at it I think it would be fairly easy to mount it below the front fenders. I would imagine that once I had it set where I liked it, I probably wouldn't mess with it, and it would look better (being out of site).
